Doctor Strange: The Oath #2

Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Marvel Comics
$2.99 US, $3.75 CAN

In a lab, tests reveal the elixir to be the cure to cancer.

Back at the hospice, Strange and Wong, still a little groggy from their wounds, check themselves out. The Night Nurse joins the pair and Strange starts calling her "Watson" in lieu of any other name. The three head over to the Bronx and the apartment/lab of Dr Jonas Hilt. There they find the place trashed and Hilt dead on the floor.

Flashback to an arrogant Dr Strange, head of surgery and denying surgery to people like Mr Pavlish on account of them not being able to pay his fee. Shortly thereafter, Strange suffers his accident and the loss of fine motor skills in his hands. He nearly strangles Dr Nicodemus West, the surgeon responsible for repairing his hands, in a fit of anger.

At the scene of the crime, Strange uses mystics to reveal the footsteps of the perp and assumes it's Mordo behind it all. The three head out on a train to pursue. Over the Harlem River, Strange instructs them to jump out of the moving train and they land in a place hidden from the perception of reality.

Night Nurse bobby-pin breaks them into the lair and they face some fierce sentry guards. With Strange and Wong debating over who might be commanding the guards, Brigand manages to capture and hold the Nurse as hostage.
